Clinical Medical Assistant Training Program
East Side/Independence Adult School, in collaboration with Boston Reed and
local healthcare facilities, if offering a 17-week Clinical Medical Assistant
training program. The "back office" medical assistant's primary role
is to assist the doctor in providing patient care. Clinical Medical
Assistant duties include assisting the doctor with clinical procedures such
as minor surgeries, performing simple laboratory tests and administration
of medications. Participants will be required to satisfactorily complete
120 hours of classroom instruction and a 160-hour clinical externship.
The clinical externship will be performed at a local medical clinic or office
and will be arranged by Boston Reed. The program satisfies all training
guidelines established by the California Medical Board and the California
Medical Assistant Association (CMAA). Participants will receive a certificate
of completion and be job-ready upon completion of the course. Course
fee includes textbook, workbook, medical equipment, clinical extership and

Pharmacy Technician Training Program
East Side/Independence Adult School in collaboration with Boston Reed is
offering a 24-week Pharmacy Technician Training Program. The Pharmacy
Technician assists the pharmacist with mixing and packaging prescriptions,
maintaining client records, referring clients to the pharmacist for counseling,
assisting with inventory control and purchasing, as well as collecting payment
and coordinating billing. This course combines 168 hours classroom instruction
with a 120-hour pharmacy extership, coordinated by Boston Reed, to provide
students with a complete learning experience. Enrollments take on a
first-come basis. Course fee includes textbook, workbook, medical equipment,

Phlebotomy Certification Program
East Side/Independence Adult School, in collaboration with Boston Reed,
is offering a 16-hour course designed to provide instruction and certification
in the art of drawing blood. Students will become proficient in venipuncture
with syringe, vacutainer, butterfly and fingerstick methods built upon a
foundation of basic principles of venous anatomy, physiology and sterile
technique. Upon completion of the training, the student will receive
our certificate of completion as required by Section 1034 of the California
Code of Regulations. Fee includes textbook, medical equipment and certificate.
Each 16-hour class meets on a Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Pre-registration with Boston Reed is required. This course will be taught

ORTHOPEDIC TECHNICIAN TRAINING PROGRAM
East Side Independence Adult Center in collaboration with Boston Reed and
medical facilities in the area, is offering a 16-week Orthopedic Technician
Training program. As an Orthopedic Technician, you will be trained to
care for patients with conditions of the bones and joints. An Orthopedic Technician
works in such settings as an orthopedic clinic or the hospital emergency
room applying casts and splints. This 352-hour course combines 112-hours
of classroom instruction with 240-hour clinical externship to provide you
with a complete learning experience. Fees include textbook, consumable supplies,
clinical externship and certificate of completion. Early registration

MEDICAL BILLER TRAINING PROGRAM
East Side Independence Adult Center in collaboration with Boston Reed and
medical facilities in the area, is offering a Medical Biller Training
program. As a Medical Biller, you will know how to process Workers’
Compensation claims, Personal Injury, Medi-care and Medi-cal claims.
This program is designed to prepare students with the knowledge, competencies
and technical skills for entry-level positions as a Medical Biller.
This course combines 112 hours of classroom instruction with a 120-hour externship
to provide you with a complete learning experience. Course fee covers
books, consumable supplies, externship and course completion certificate.
