How do you write memoirs?

Memoir takes several forms.

The classic autobiography tells a person’s story as he grows from innocent childhood to adulthood, often emphasizing something overcome or achieved.

Another form of recollection surveys a certain period of time or series of events in a person's life.

Public figures often tell their public life story and leave out much of what is private, omitting their childhood and reference to close, personal friends and family.

What you choose to emphasize is up to you. The assignments start with your early childhood and progress through time to today. Not all assignments will concern you as the main character. You may want to recall a favorite relative, write about a long ago family member you just found out about, or fictionalize a family scandal. How you select your topics is up to you. Your assignment will always offer suggestions and options.
