Yen Lam

My Life

My name is Yen Lam. I am from Vietnam. I grew up and lived there until I was 17 years old. Then I came to the USA. I was happy when I lived together with my family in Vietnam. We lived in Dongnai City. My father was a taxi driver, and my mother was a tailor. My brother and I went to school. I studied in high school when my brother studied in elementary school. I had many friends, but I had only one best friend. She was my classmate and my neighbor, too. My school was very big. There were many teachers and students. I went to school every day. I liked every subject we studied. On weekends my best friend and I went to the library or the park.

At first my family waited for six years to get the papers to come to the USA. When I came here, I didn't graduate from high school. I just completed 11th grade. I didn't think that I would come to the USA because everybody told me that it was difficult. But we were finally able to come in April, 2003.

Right now I am studying ESL at Overfelt school. Sometimes I write letters to my frineds and relatives in Vietnam. I always miss them. I hope someday I can go back to Vietnam. I will visit my famly and friends there. But now I am trying to study hard, and I hope I will have a good job.
