This course prepares you for Accounting 1B and eventual entry-level employment and college-level accounting.  Course topics include basic accounting principles with an emphasis on terminology and forms, journals, ledgers, financial statements, end-of-fiscal-year functions, banking, journalizing sales, purchases, cash payments and receipts.  5 units of  math or elective credit may be earned.

ACCOUNTING 1B
This course prepares you for Accounting 2A and eventual entry-level employment and college-level accounting by instructing you in the proper procedures for maintaining the financial records of a corporate merchandising business.  Course topics include transaction dealings with:  payroll, purchases and sales discounts, uncollectible accounts, bad debts expense, depreciation of plant assets and other plant asset accounting, notes and interest, accrued revenue and expenses, dividends declaration and payment, journalizing end-of-fiscal-year adjustments and closing entries, worksheet preparation and analysis, and financial statement preparation and analysis.   Prerequisite:  Accounting 1A.    5 units of math or elective credit may be earned.

PHLEBOTOMY

East Side/Independence Adult Center in collaboration with Boston Reed is offering a  16-hour course designed to provide instruction and certification in the art of drawing blood for current or future Medical Assistants, Emergency Medical Technicians, Vocational Nurses, Registered Nurses and Medical Doctors who use or plan to use phlebotomy skills within the scope of their work.  This course is not intended for those who plan to perform phlebotomy in a licensed clinical laboratory or public health agency.  Students will become proficient in venipuncture with syringe, vacutainer, butterfly and fingerstick methods built upon a foundation of basic principles of venous anatomy, physiology and sterile technique.  The $295.00 fee includes textbook, medical equipment and certificate of completion.  For more information, please call Boston Reed at 1-800-201-1141 or register on-line for a schedule and application at www.bostonreed.com.  Pre-registration with Boston Reed is required.

PHARMACY TECHNICIAN  NEW SECOND

ORTHOPEDIC TECHNICIAN TRAINING PROGRAM
East Side Independence Adult Center in collaboration with Boston Reed and medical facilities in the area, is offering a 16-week Orthopedic Technician Training program.  As an Orthopedic Technician, you will be trained to care for patients with conditions of the bones and joints. An Orthopedic Technician works in such settings as an orthopedic clinic or the hospital emergency room applying casts and splints.  This 352-hour course combines 112-hours of classroom instruction with 240-hour clinical externship to provide you with a complete learning experience.
