Native Americans were the first people to settle in America. Christopher Columbus traveled to America in 1492. He traveled on a ship. In the 1600ís people from England came to live in America. They settled on the East Coast. These new settlers were called Pilgrims. They came on a ship called the Mayflower. They came to America for religious freedom.

The Native Americans helped the new settlers. They helped them plant food, fish, hunt and build houses. The Pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving. They invited the Native Americans to celebrate with them.
